Equating Qualifications

Qualifications are frequently grouped together into various levels. This can help you, and employers, see how different qualifications compare with each other. The most recognised qualification level comparisons are:

  • National Qualifications Framewor (NQF)
  • Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
  • Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ)

ITQ stands for Information Technology Qualification and this page is concerned with ITQ Level 1, 2 and 3. Here is an illustraion of the requirements for the award from the British Computer Society (BCS)


ITQ Level 1

Here are the level 1 subjects that you must achieve to be awarded a BCS qualification.


  • Security for IT Users
  • IT User Fundamentals
  • Using Email and the Internet

ITQ Level 2

Here are the level 2 subjects that you must achieve to be awarded a BCS qualification.


  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheet Software
  • Presentation Software
  • Improving Productivity Level 2

ITQ Level 3

Here are the level 3 subjects that you must achieve to be awarded a BCS qualification.


  • Advanced Word Processing
  • Advanced Spreadsheet Software
  • Advanced Database Software
  • Advanced Presentation Software
  • Improving Productivity Level 3

With this level you need to pass the 4 subjects plus the Improving Productivity Level 3 exam.
